It didn't take long to realize that I didn't want to solve differential equations for the rest of my life. I was an Electrical Engineering major in college and while playing with electronics seemed like fun - two things set me on a different career path: I floundered in the basic EE courses but aced the Digital Logic class (a course on Boolean logic disguised as an electronics class) and I was having more fun writing programs on the college's VAX/VMS mainframe. In January of 1996, I transfered to the main campus of the University of Pittsburgh and landed a job as a Student Programmer I at the Center for Instructional Development and Distance Education (CIDDE.) The rest, as they say, is history.

Some key points in my life:

  • 1997 - I was hired full time as a System/Programmer III at CIDDE
  • 2000 - I left the University of Pittsburgh for a position at Blackboard Inc. in the ASP department
  • 2000 - I married the most wonderful woman in the world
  • 2005 - I took a job with OpSource Inc. as a Systems Engineer, doing traditional managed hosting
  • 2008 - I transferred positions in OpSource to Application Engineer, resposible for advanced applications design and troubleshooting
  • 2009 - I obtained my Red Hat Certified Engineer credential (cert # 805009770342158)
  • 2009 - the birth of my son
  • 2009 - I transferred positions in OpSource to become the Senior Technical Manager/Evangelist for the Cloud
